Description	Abstract: Brinkley discusses her experience working with Morris (Mac) McGough, as well as his life and work, and his influence on rural life in western North Carolina. She relates the history of the WNC Community Development Association, and its role in organizing programs for rural development and improvement of rural living standards. She discusses problems with agriculture in this area, the search for an alternative cash crop to tobacco, and the effect of policies of the US Forest Service on the sale and manufacture of timber. She describes the creation of and programs of the WNC Agricultural Center, the WNC Farmers' Market, and the NC Arboretum.
